Staff from the office of the Data Protection Commissioner have raided a number of mobile phone text marketing companies.
Commissioner, Billy Hawkes said the inspections follow a “large number” of complaints from members of the public about the activities of certain firms. These mostly related to the sending of unsolicited text messages.

RegTel, the Irish regulator of Premium Rate Services stated in a message to all Premium Rate Service providers that there had been an “unprecedented increase” in the number of complaints it received from consumers, with the majority focused on subscription-type services.
