PhonePayPlus the UK regulator former known as ICSTIS issued as a reminder to the industry that, as of 8 November 2007, all “controlled” sexual entertainment services (SES) are required only to operate on the requisite 09 (0909, 0908, 098) number ranges as designated by Ofcom.

This means that any “controlled” SES which may currently be operating – typically on 08 number ranges but not exclusively – will be required to migrate to the designated range as set out by Ofcom in its Statement on Conditions regulating SES. Under the PhonepayPlus Code of Practice, “sexual entertainment services are services of a clearly sexual nature or any service for which the associated promotional material indicates, or implies, that the service is of a sexual nature.” It is this definition which PhonepayPlus will use when determining Code compliance and potential Code breaches.
